| Save the heckling for ball games, folks! |
[Wed Nov 2009 at 4:01pm] |
So I recently ran into this saucy little number on the audacity of fans, specifically at Brand New shows, to constantly heckle the band about playing older material/asking idiotic questions. I found it interesting, as well as agree wholeheartedly, and thought others would appreciate it. Here is an excerpt...
Heckling for songs wasn't the only horror I witnessed regarding Brand New, and this one might even be worse. During the in-store acoustic set yesterday afternoon, Jesse took the time to see if the crowd had any questions (as he often does). He made sure to request that the questions be pertinent, as we all know how ridiculous questions asked of Brand New can get. If only he had known. After what I assume was a highly sarcastic and satirical quip from someone (which I couldn't hear, but got a laugh out of the crowd and even Jesse), someone shouted out a question that absolutely horrified me. I'm pretty sure it even caught Jesse off-guard too, by the look on his face, but in a very classy and respectable move he took about 5 minutes to answer the person's question: "Jesse, why do you hate yourself?" In the words of Jon Stewart... Are you f***ing kidding me?! After pausing a few seconds in which I'm sure he was trying to figure out if the question was asked seriously or not, Jesse realized that the fan was serious and that due to the crowd's silence after the question... he was going to have to answer it. I was horrified. Shocked. Appalled. I can't even begin to address the countless things wrong with this question, nor can I understand why someone felt important enough to imply something they more-than-likely have absolutely no clue or business publicly asking questions about. I don't know what I would have done had I been in Jesse's shoes, but kudos to him for handling the situation with exquisite poise and dignity, though.

So I'm taking what may be the best class ever at UCF, Survey of Rock Music. We have to listen to and be familiar with specific songs, and one of them is "A Day in the Life" by the Beatles. I was going over it today, and near the end, about 5:12, there are overlapping voices and weird as shit noises, and the voice sounds like it's saying the same thing that Jesse says at the end of "Play Crack the Sky (5:18)." Maybe I'm hearing it wrong.... Link to "A Day in the Life" http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=di7fKh3Vbj8 and you should already know "Play Crack the Sky" ;) Not exactly significant, just thought it was an interesting connection to make. My apologies if this has been previously noted. Discuss? :)

Bangkok Sink Degausser You Won't Know Tommy Gun Sic Transit Quiet Things Limousine (Jesse solo) Vices Gasoline Sowing Season You Stole In a Jar Luca (with Kevin Devine!) Archers Jesus Christ Bought A Bride At The Bottom Jude Law Seventy Times 7
Seventy Times 7 was thrown in at the last second. XD Fantastic. No Play Crack The Sky, but that's okay. I was surprised at how small the venue was, though!

| Toronto Tickets |
[Mon Nov 2009 at 5:19pm] |
Has anyone in Ontario received their tickets for the Toronto shows? I ordered from Ducat King. I remember them saying they would be mailed a month in advance. Now I have less than two weeks to get those tickets... and I'm traveling from out of town to be there (already paid for the transportation costs).
I emailed Ducat King, but I thought I'd see if anyone else is having a similar issue. Also, their "help" email isn't working... I've tried emailing their main info one.
Thanks.
::EDIT::
They emailed me back (speedy!) and said they weren't actually mailed out a month in advance... only late last week. Not sure why there was a delay.
If anyone else is having problems and wants to get in touch with them by phone, their toll-free number is 1-888-512-7469.

| House of Blues Orlando - 10/6/09 |
[Sat Nov 2009 at 1:33am] |
The final night of my 3 night straight extravaganza with Thrice and Brand New was just about as good as last night. Some more Your Favorite Weapon material, and a very energetic set overall. I was up on the upper level tonight watching, rather than in the pit like I've been for just about every show in my life. It's a weird perspective, but definitely very cool as well.
Brand New
Welcome to Bankok Sink Degausser You Wont Know Mix Tape Okay I Believe You, But My Tommy Gun Don't Jude Law Seventy Times Seven Limousine (Partial solo) Vices Gasoline Sowing Season You Stole In a Jar Luca Jesus Christ At the Bottom Play Crack the Sky
If you had told me the other day that I'd see Jude Law, Mix Tape, and Seventy Times Seven I'd laugh at you. If you'd told me I'd see two of them one night, and then all three the very next, I'd think you were crazy. But alas, it happened. Jackpot.
Thrice
Of Dust And Nations All The World Is Mad Weight Helter Skelter In Exile Milly Doublespeak Silhouette Beggars
No Arsonist tonight, or Talking Through Glass like we got last night, but still a very cool set. I'm growing very fond of the reworked version of A Song for Milly Michaelson. More electric and all. I came in getting ready to sing along to All the World is Mad, since they often open with that lately, but they threw a curveball. I still love the part in Of Dust and Nations where Teppei taps the notes out by himself before the rest of the band joins back in. Beggars stuff, again, sounds phenomenal live.
Any questions, etc, go on.

| The Ritz -Ybor City, November 5th |
[Fri Nov 2009 at 11:09am] |
Not really in the correct order, save for the first 2 or so and then the last one.
Welcome to Bangkok Sink You Won't Know Degausser Sic Transit Okay I Believe You Jude Law Seventy Times Seven Sowing Season Limousine Luca You Stole Vices Gasoline Archers Jesus Christ Bought a Bride At the Bottom Play Crack the Sky
Jesse asked how many people were at the Orlando show the night before, and a sizable chunk of the crowd screamed, and then asked how many are going the to the next night in Orlando again, and again people screamed. He talked to the guys and then said they were going to play some old stuff so we don't hear the same thing each night. Thus, Jude Law and Seventy Times Seven.
Setlist was pretty close to Orlando save for that. They left off Quiet Things and In a Jar. Added Welcome to Bangkok, Jude Law, and Seventy Times Seven.
Thrice also covered Helter Skelter, and their setlist was mainly the same as last night.
I remember them playing
All the World is Mad The Weight Of Dust and Nations Song for Milly Michaelson Talking Through Glass Silhouette The Arsonist Helter Skelter In Exile Beggars
No Doublespeak, like they have been playing recently. Talking Through Glass was played for the first time live, also.

Brian Bonz has posted on his blog that he's going to be performing at the Nassau Coliseum show (http://brianbonzblog.com/archives/600) and has said that there is going to be a smaller acoustic stage. I remember this being mentioned in a comment a week or two ago, but I haven't seen anything posted about it recently and I wasn't sure if it was an official statement or speculation by the commenter.
I'm only posting this because I am at a complete loss as to where it will be. Outside? Somewhere else inside the venue? For those who watch Islanders hockey games, the only other place I can think of is that small stage they have sometimes for bands to play on between periods, unless they set up another stage at the opposite end of the GA. Either way, I'm confused. If anyone has any news/ideas about there the acoustic stage will be I'd love to hear it, haha.
With that said, I have one extra GA ticket for the Nassau Coliseum Nov. 28th show. If anyone wants it you can e-mail me at jmca101488@gmail.com. Edit: That was fast.

| One GA ticket for Brand New at the Tabernacle! |
[Sun Nov 2009 at 7:27pm] |
Hey! I have an extra GA ticket for the Atlanta (11/3/09) show that I'm selling for $35 or best offer. Since the show is so close, I'm not going to mail the ticket; we can arrange to meet before the show, and exchange money (cash only, please) for the ticket.
Email justhush@gmail.com if you're interested. :)
